About SafeAI@Penn

Building a serious student community around one of the century’s hardest problems.

SafeAI@Penn is a student-led community at the University of Pennsylvania for people who want to understand and reduce risks from advanced artificial intelligence.

What we do

We run introductory fellowships, talks, workshops, reading groups, and community events that help students engage seriously with AI safety.

Our goal is not to tell members what to think. It is to help them understand the strongest arguments, learn the relevant technical and policy concepts, meet collaborators, and identify useful next steps.

How we think

01

Take the stakes seriously.

Advanced AI may create extraordinary benefits, but the downside risks could also be unusually large.

02

Stay intellectually open.

AI safety is uncertain and fast-moving. We value careful reasoning, disagreement, and updating when the evidence changes.

03

Turn concern into useful work.

We want members to leave with clearer models, stronger skills, and concrete ways to contribute.
